The Prayer of Jabez -

VERSION 1: COMPREHENSIVE (4,998 characters)

In the middle of 1 Chronicles 4—a chapter filled with names you can't pronounce—there's a sudden, beautiful interruption. Two verses. One man. One prayer. And God said YES.

His name was Jabez, which means "Pain." Every time someone called his name, they were calling him "Pain." He was labeled by his past. Defined by suffering.

Sound familiar?

Maybe your name isn't "Pain," but you've carried labels: Broken. Rejected. Not Enough. Abandoned. Damaged.

Jabez refused to let his name—his past—define his future. And that's why his story made it into the Bible.

1 CHRONICLES 4:9-10:

"Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, 'I gave birth to him in pain.' Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, 'Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.' And God granted his request."

WHY WAS THIS PRAYER WRITTEN INTO SCRIPTURE?

REASON #1: Your Past Does NOT Define Your Future

Jabez was named "Pain"—but he prayed to be FREE from it. And God answered. Your past trauma, abuse, labels, and shame do NOT determine your future. God specializes in rewriting stories.

REASON #2: It's Okay to Pray BOLD Prayers

Jabez didn't pray small. He said: "Oh, that You would BLESS me!" Not "maybe." Not "if You have time." BLESS ME. And God wasn't offended. He ANSWERED. God wants you to ask boldly.

Matthew 7:7-8: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

James 4:2: "You do not have because you do not ask God."

REASON #3: God Wants to ENLARGE Your Territory

Jabez didn't just ask to survive. He asked to THRIVE. He asked for MORE. God doesn't want you to stay small or settle. He wants to enlarge your territory—your influence, purpose, impact, and calling.

REASON #4: You Need God's Hand With You

"Let Your hand be with me!" Jabez knew he couldn't do it alone. Blessing without God's presence is just success without significance. You NEED God with you.

REASON #5: You CAN Be Free from Pain

"Keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain," Jabez asked God to deliver him from the very thing he was named after. You can be free from the pain that's defined you—abandonment, rejection, abuse, betrayal, unworthiness. God can break the cycle.

REASON #6: God ANSWERS Bold Prayers

"And God granted his request," God said YES. Not "maybe." Not "wait." YES. The same God who heard Jabez hears YOU. The same God who blessed Jabez wants to bless YOU.

THE PRAYER (Pray This):

Father, I come boldly like Jabez. BLESS me. ENLARGE my territory. Let YOUR HAND be with me. DELIVER me from pain. Set me free from labels, cycles, and wounds. I believe You hear me. I believe You will answer. In Jesus' name, Amen.
