Why Did Jesus Wash His Disciples’ Feet? A Lesson on Humility and Service

Lesson: When Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, He was teaching them that true leadership is not about being served ,it is about serving others with humility, love, and compassion. Even though He was their Teacher and Lord, He humbled Himself to do the work of a servant. Jesus wanted His disciples to understand that no act of kindness is too small when it is done in love.

John 13:12–15 says:

“You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”

Jesus was showing us that the greatest people are not the ones with the most power, but the ones willing to serve others. He even washed the feet of Judas, knowing Judas would betray Him. That is a powerful example of unconditional love, forgiveness, and humility.
