When Your Heart Is Breaking, God Is Closest to You

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

— Psalm 34:18 💛

Can I sit with you in this verse for just a moment?

Notice what it does NOT say.

It does not say God is close to the ones who have it all together.

It does not say He shows up for the strong, the polished, the ones with a smile fixed on their face.

It says the BROKENHEARTED.

The ones whose chest hurts when they wake up in the morning.

The ones who have been crying in the car so nobody sees.

The ones who are holding everything together on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside.

THOSE are the ones He moves closest to. ✨

Not away from your pain, beloved. INTO it. Right there beside you in the middle of it.

📚 PSALM 34:18 — 3 THINGS TO REMEMBER

1️⃣ YOUR PAIN IS NOT A SIGN OF GOD'S ABSENCE.

The silence you feel is not abandonment. It is the quiet presence of a God who does not need to make noise to be near. He is in the room. He has always been in the room.

2️⃣ BEING CRUSHED IS NOT THE SAME AS BEING DESTROYED.

The word "crushed" in this scripture means pressed down, overwhelmed, at the end of yourself. And God specifically says those are the ones He SAVES. Not judges. Not lectures. Saves. There is a difference between being pressed and being broken beyond repair. You are pressed. You are not finished.

3️⃣ CLOSENESS IS HIS RESPONSE TO YOUR PAIN.

In a world that pulls away from messy, complicated, hard-to-fix situations — God leans IN. Your tears do not make Him uncomfortable. Your questions do not make Him pull back. Your pain is not too much for Him. It is the very thing that draws Him near.

Wherever you are today — whatever is breaking in you right now — you are not alone in it. The God of the universe has pulled His chair right up next to yours.

And He is not going anywhere. 🙏
